Sony launched its flagship Xperia 1 VIII smartphone featuring an AI Camera Assistant, an upgraded telephoto sensor, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor on August 3, 2026.

The device includes an AI Camera Assistant that automatically detects scenes to suggest colour tones, lens options, and bokeh effects. It features a new 1/1.56-inch telephoto camera image sensor—four times larger than the previous model—and applies RAW multi-frame processing across all three rear lenses (16mm, 24mm, and 70mm) to improve low-light dynamic range and reduce noise.

The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform, which offers a 20% performance increase. It incorporates redesigned full-stage stereo speakers, a dedicated camera shutter button, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a battery rated for up to two days of use.

The Xperia 1 VIII is available in four gemstone-inspired colours: Graphite Black, Iolite Silver, Garnet Red, and Native Gold. Orders in Malaysia start at a suggested retail price of RM6,499.00, with early bird buyers receiving a WF-1000XM6 earbud bundle and a stand cover.
