IHG Hotels & Resorts opens Kimpton El Castelar, a 34-room boutique hotel in Mexico City’s Polanco district, on 6 July 2026 in a renovated 1940 Roel Building.
Kimpton El Castelar was located at Emilio Castelar 107 in the Polanquito neighbourhood, near Masaryk Avenue, the Auditorio Nacional, Chapultepec Castle, and the Archaeological Museum, in the heart of Lincoln Park.
The hotel occupied the Roel Building, which originally opened in 1940 and was designed by architect Francisco J. Serrano in the Mexican Art Nouveau period, and featured multiple private terraces and a rooftop pool.
Guest rooms featured textural wood floors, cement tiles inspired by traditional Mexican ceramics, and most included soaking tubs, with materials such as faded terracotta, warm metals and natural stone used throughout the interiors.
The property offered Kimpton-brand amenities including daily complimentary coffee and premium teas, nightly Social Hour with complimentary beer, wine and light bites, complimentary bikes, yoga mats in each room, and pet-friendly accommodations.
IHG stated that Kimpton El Castelar joined Kimpton Virgilio in Mexico City’s Polanco neighbourhood and formed part of Kimpton’s portfolio of 87 open hotels and IHG’s wider luxury and lifestyle portfolio.
